I usually don’t care about things like screensavers or customizing my desktop. Its just not my style, but yesterday I was at OpenSourceForWindows.com to find some apps for my new Lenovo x61 (yes, its awesome), and I found the electric sheep screen saver.
Since most of the other software on the site is quality I figured I might check it out. The name is just icing on the cake. But I wasn’t just going to install it on my machine because it has a nice name - I needed some screens, so here’s one from my machine:
Looks good, I figure, so I install it. Then I it finally starts running… and I’m like oh yeah.
The screenshot really doesn’t do it justice. This is the best looking screensaver I’ve ever seen, and it puts those old Winamp visualizations that you get high to and watch to shame. Philip K Dick would be proud.
Really, its awesome.
(The weird thing is, it has to sync with other machines, so it takes a while for it to start up the first time. You’ll need to leave it for a while before it gets cooking, but its worth it for sure.)
Mike, if this isn’t on your computer next time I come over, you’re not getting the hoodie.
